Over de kunstenaar
De schilderijen en wandreliëfs van Han Schuil zijn geen voorstellingen uit de realiteit, maar figuraties van vormen en kleuren. Van abstractie spreekt Schuil zelf niet, want: 'er zitten figuratieve, geometrische en associatieve elementen in'. Er zijn dan ook, naast non-figuratie, vormen in zijn werk te ontdekken van bijvoorbeeld huizen en boten. Deze hebben, volgens Schuil, in hun schematische weergave een 'verkeersbord-effect'. Tegelijk erkent hij dat zijn werk de functie van een icoon heeft - een plaats van contemplatie voor de beschouwer. Han Schuil's paintings and wall reliefs are not representations from reality, but figurations of shapes and colours. Schuil himself does not speak of abstraction, because: 'it contains figurative, geometric and associative elements'. In addition to non-figuration, there are also forms to be discovered in his work, such as houses and boats. According to Schuil, these have a 'traffic sign effect' in their schematic representation. At the same time he recognizes that his work has the function of an icon - a place of contemplation for the viewer.
